Distelhorst, de 84 a\u00f1os, antiguo director general del Marble Institute of America (MIA), falleci\u00f3 el 6 de julio en Avon Lake, Ohio. El velatorio tendr\u00e1 lugar el jueves 9 de julio, de 16:00 a 19:00, en la funeraria Busch Funeral Home, situada en 163 Avon Belden Road, en Avon Lake. La misa de cuerpo presente se celebrar\u00e1 el viernes 10 de julio en la iglesia cat\u00f3lica de San Jos\u00e9, en 32929 Lake Road, en Avon Lake. Ayud\u00f3 a la organizaci\u00f3n a afrontar tanto el crecimiento sin precedentes del sector de la piedra a principios de la d\u00e9cada de 2000 como su contracci\u00f3n durante la Gran Recesi\u00f3n. Durante su mandato, la MIA reforz\u00f3 su misi\u00f3n de formaci\u00f3n en el sector con seminarios regionales de costa a costa y busc\u00f3 una mayor cooperaci\u00f3n internacional con grupos extranjeros del sector de la piedra.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antes de incorporarse a la MIA, Distelhorst trabaj\u00f3 como director general y vicepresidente ejecutivo de la Asociaci\u00f3n Nacional de Tiendas Universitarias (NACS) y de su filial con \u00e1nimo de lucro, NACSCORP. Tras dejar la MIA, ocup\u00f3 el cargo de director ejecutivo de la Fundaci\u00f3n del Lorain County Community College. Tambi\u00e9n form\u00f3 parte del consejo de administraci\u00f3n de la fundaci\u00f3n.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Distelhorst tambi\u00e9n fue miembro de la Sociedad Americana de Ejecutivos de Asociaciones (ASAE) durante 47 a\u00f1os. Form\u00f3 parte de la junta directiva elegida de la organizaci\u00f3n, llegando a ocupar el cargo de presidente entre 1995 y 1996. En 1984 recibi\u00f3 el m\u00e1ximo galard\u00f3n de la organizaci\u00f3n, el \u00abKey Award\u00bb, y tambi\u00e9n presidi\u00f3 la Fundaci\u00f3n ASAE.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Distelhorst naci\u00f3 el 21 de enero de 1942 en Columbus, Ohio, hijo de Harold y Ruth Distelhorst. Se licenci\u00f3 en 1965 en la Universidad Estatal de Ohio. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mientras estudiaba en la universidad, se uni\u00f3 al programa ROTC de la Marina y, al graduarse, fue nombrado alf\u00e9rez de la Marina de los EE. UU. Sirvi\u00f3 como oficial de aprovisionamiento del buque USS Charles P. Cecil frente a las costas de Vietnam a finales de los a\u00f1os 60 y, m\u00e1s tarde, ocup\u00f3 el cargo de jefe administrativo en el Cuerpo de Abastecimiento de la Marina, en Washington. Durante su servicio, recibi\u00f3 la Medalla al M\u00e9rito de la Marina, la Medalla del Servicio de Defensa Nacional, la Medalla del Servicio en Vietnam y la Menci\u00f3n de Honor del Comandante de la Fuerza de Cruceros y Destructores de la Flota Atl\u00e1ntica de EE.
