ISFA launches the American Countertop Manufacturers Council, a formal industry forum for consensus, action, and self-regulation

The International Surface Fabricators Association (ISFA) has launched the American Countertop Manufacturers Council (ACMC), a new, structured industry council created to provide countertop manufacturers and fabricators with a transparent, documented, and legally sound process for collaboration, issue resolution, and consensus-based decision-making.

Administered by ISFA, ACMC was established to ensure that the countertop and surface fabrication industry has a single, organized forum to:

  • Submit industry issues.
  • Review regulatory and legislative developments.
  • Document objections and concerns.
  • Adopt formal industry positions through due process.

ACMC operates under written procedures emphasizing openness, balance, due process, and documented voting, with positions adopted only upon approval by a two-thirds supermajority.

“ACMC is about structure, accountability, and giving the industry a credible, organized voice,” said Laurie Weber, CEO of ISFA. “This council creates a formal pathway for manufacturers and fabricators to engage on real issues—before decisions are made for us.”

ACMC membership and committee participation

ACMC participation is defined as, Countertop Manufacturers – Businesses that provide fabrication services for any material used in countertops, including but not limited to: natural stone (granite, marble, quartzite, soapstone, slate, limestone/travertine), engineered stone (quartz, terrazzo, solid surface, recycled glass composites), porcelain slabs, wood (butcher block, bamboo), metal (stainless steel, copper, zinc), concrete, laminate, recycled and sustainable materials (paper composite, reclaimed wood, recycled plastics), and other emerging materials.

More information and applications are available at https://www.isfanow.org/acmc.

There is no fee for current ISFA members, but you must still apply to participate on the ACMC. This ensures proper documentation, balance, and compliance with ACMC procedures.

ACMC issues first call to action

ACMC is now formally accepting feedback on its first submitted issue. If you are a countertop and surface fabricator, as defined by ACMC, your input is requested and encouraged.

The first ACMC issue is informed by recent federal legislative activity, including testimony and discussion surrounding H.R. 5437, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Stone Slab Products Act. H.R. 5437 clarifies that manufacturers and sellers of stone slab products cannot be held liable for injuries caused by silica exposure that occur during fabrication activities they do not control. The bill recognizes that stone slabs are not inherently dangerous as sold, and that workplace safety during cutting, grinding, and polishing is already governed by federal and state regulations enforced at the fabrication level.

By prohibiting civil actions against manufacturers and sellers for fabrication-related injuries, the legislation preserves access to lawful products, prevents misuse of the court system, and reinforces that accountability for worker safety must remain with the employers and workplaces where fabrication occurs. ACMC was created to ensure the industry can respond to these moments with one coordinated voice, backed by documented process and participation.

To submit, refer to Issue Submission and Registry Access.
