WOW Design and Summumstudio shape Pizzicato, the first collection created with ECHO, a new material combining ecology and acoustics

At Cersaie 2026, WOW Design presented Pizzicato, the first collection developed with ECHO, a new material conceived for architecture. Designed by Summumstudio, the proposal opens up a new field of exploration for the brand, bringing recovered matter, design, sound, and light together within a single language.

Pizzicato: from vibration to relief

Pizzicato takes its name from the musical technique in which a string is plucked with the fingers, transforming a brief gesture into vibration and sound. The collection translates that gesture onto the surface: the movement of the string becomes relief, vibration becomes rhythm, and light reveals changing shadows, depths, and nuances throughout the day.

In its architectural application, partition walls are interpreted as musical staves on which the pieces in the collection are arranged like melodies, creating compositions through rhythm, relief, and light. The different geometries make it possible to vary the presence of volume and create compositions ranging from quieter arrangements to more intense ones.

Pizzicato allows architects and designers to work with rhythms, transitions and different degrees of depth, offering freedom to modulate the expression of each composition.

ECHO: circularity and acoustic comfort in a new material

ECHO is based on a simple idea: materials do not disappear, they transform. Its composition contains 90% recycled content, 51% of which is ceramic material recovered from WOW’s own production process, while the remaining 39% comes from other recycled components. Materials that have already had a previous life are thus returned to the production cycle and transformed into a new surface.

Its name brings together two concepts—ecology and acoustic—which sum up its dual nature. Recovered matter becomes part of the material’s own expression, with subtle variations in tone, texture, and depth revealed by light. At the same time, its composition and relief contribute to improved acoustic comfort in interior spaces, further expanding the possibilities of ceramics in architecture and interior design.

ECHO also offers hydrophobic properties, stain resistance, thermal insulation, and flexibility, broadening its potential applications in architecture and interior design projects. WOW worked with CREAVALO on the technological development of ECHO.

Two materials, one language

Pizzicato combines ECHO and matte porcelain stoneware within a single compositional system. The collection features five forms made from ECHO—Piano, Pizzico, Arco, Tremolo, and Terzo—together with two matte porcelain pieces, Piano Tile and Terzo Tile, designed to complement them.

The formats range across different scales: Pizzico, 10.2cm x 15cm (roughly 4” x 6”); Piano and Arco, 15cm x 15cm (roughly 6” x 6”); Terzo, 15cm x 45cm (roughly 6” x 17.75”); and Tremolo, 45cm x 45cm (roughly 17.75” x 17.75”). Piano Tile is available in 15cm x 15cm (roughly 6” x 6”), while Terzo Tile comes in 4.8cm x 15cm (roughly 2” x 6”).

The combination of both materials makes it possible to alternate smoother areas with more pronounced reliefs, introduce changes in depth, and create transitions within the same composition. Pizzicato thus works as a vocabulary of forms with which to create different rhythms, rather than establishing predetermined solutions.

Color acts as a link between the two materials. ECHO pieces are available in four shades—Sand, Earth, Cypress and Navy—while the porcelain pieces feature the same colors alongside Cypress Light and Navy Light. The same palette is therefore expressed through the texture and inherent variations of ECHO and the matte finish of porcelain, expanding the possibilities for combination while maintaining visual unity.

The collection will be available early in 2027.
