Eucalyptus tile by Motawi based on woodblock art of Yoshiko Yamamoto

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — April 12, 2021 — Motawi Tileworks (The Tileworks) has released 4″x12″ Eucalyptus, a new handcrafted art tile. The ceramic homage to the eucalyptus tree is based on the art of Yoshiko Yamamoto. Yamamoto’s woodblock and letterpress prints, produced at the Arts & Crafts Press in Tacoma, Washington, are a recurring source of inspiration for Nawal Motawi, owner and artistic director of The Tileworks. Motawi has created multiple art tiles based on Yamamoto’s work.

Eucalyptus is available online at motawi.com and in the Motawi gallery (170 Enterprise Drive in Ann Arbor). Motawi art tiles are also sold in more than 300 locations in the U.S. and Canada.

“Arts and Crafts is a favorite style of mine, and Yoshiko Yamamoto’s designs capture that aesthetic beautifully and intriguingly,” Motawi said. “Collaborating to bring Yoshiko’s artistry to Motawi tiles is deeply rewarding!”

Founded in 1992, Motawi Tileworks makes handcrafted tile as art pieces and for residential and commercial installations. The company releases new art tiles regularly, including original designs and those based on the work of celebrated artists such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Charley Harper.
