It’s beginning to look a lot like…autumn

“Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising up every time we fall.”

– Oliver Goldsmith

It’s beginning to look a lot like…autumn. Depending on where you are, temperatures should be cooling down, leaves changing colors, the smell of harvest in the air (for us in New Mexico, it’s green chiles roasting in big vats in store parking lots, the scent wafting through the city). With the chill replacing the cloying heat of summer, clients’ thoughts are turning towards staying toasty warm. You can help them with that, by installing an electric floor warming system along with their tile floor. Both our cover story and our case study examine electric floor warming projects to inform and inspire you.

Advanced technology setting materials are wonderful products and make life easier and jobs quicker for many installers. But sometimes, you need to go old-school and use mud. Our floor mud story in the Technical section tells when you should consider mud and why it’s a good idea to have this skill set in your tile-setting arsenal.

Among our industry, there are lots of people you can turn to when you have a problem with business operations or technical challenges – but what about when life comes crashing in on you? In this first installment of a two-part series, read about recent Coverings Installation & Design Award winner Mark Christensen’s struggle with stress, personal crises, overwork, and addiction – and how he found his way back to a happy, prosperous, balanced life. Bart Bettiga also talks to Christensen in his One-to-One story, where he focuses on his professional journey and accomplishments.

At the end of next month, the industry will gather for Total Solutions Plus – the first time we’ve met in person for this all-industry conference since 2019. The location: Jacksonville, Fla. If networking and education are your jam, this conference is for you! Read all about it in our Training & Education section, and make plans to be there.

Finally, meet NTCA member Drue Hernandez of Warwick Tile, in Overland Park, Kans., and learn about how installation excellence and some ingenuity help this tile contractor excel in his market.

Wishing you a wonderful month.

God bless,
Lesley
