LATICRETE enhances its skim-coat product line with Skim Lite

A New Premium, Cement-Based Underlayment Offering Industry-Leading Lightweight Technology

Engineered with record-breaking lightweight properties, fiber reinforcement and increased coverage rates, Skim Lite offers a feature-rich formula that provides installers with more safety and efficiency in the workplace

August 25, 2021, Bethany, Conn. — LATICRETE, a leading manufacturer of globally proven construction solutions for the building industry, has elevated its skim-coat product line with Skim Lite, a new premium quality, fast-drying, polymer-modified, cement-based underlayment designed for skim-coating, smoothing and leveling prior to the application of floor coverings. Formulated with installer safety in mind, Skim Lite incorporates record-breaking lightweight technology that puts less strain on labor and contains no respirable crystalline silica levels that exceed OSHA action level*. The product is fiber-reinforced to offer the customer optimal flexural properties. It also has a strong surface that is rated safe for caster wheel use, perfectly suited for applications such as hospitals or other demanding situations.

“Skim Lite was specially engineered to not only improve our existing skim-coat product line, but to also provide a reliable underlayment that complies with the evolving flooring market’s demand for safer solutions,” said Elvis Torres, LATICRETE Product Manager. “The product features industry-leading innovation centered around its best-in-class lightweight properties, which offer 40% weight savings while providing an extraordinarily high coverage rate and exceptional workability.”

As the premium choice for a leading cement-based underlayment, Skim Lite is made simple for both the installer and end-user. Its rapid-setting, high-yield formula does not require additional water and is ready for finished flooring in as soon as 20 minutes, making it easier to handle on the jobsite while providing consistent results. The product can be applied from skim depth to 1-inch thick (25 mm) onto a variety of interior substrates such as concrete slabs, plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), gypsum and vinyl tile and is ideal for a wide range of applications including commercial, retail, healthcare, education, residential, hospitality and office. As the first product of its kind that features enhanced safety properties, the new formula is offered in an eight-pound (3.6 kg) bag.
