Put a bow on it: year-end giving to benefit Tile Heritage Foundation

The Tile Heritage Foundation (THF), has been a historian of the tile industry since 1987, amassing archives that include over 40,000 documents, more than 44,000 digital images, and more than 4,000 American ceramic tiles dating back to the late 19th century. As a custodian of cultural treasures, THF’s records and archives are available for scholarly and public use, and for reference and aid for those in the tile industry seeking to match or source period tiles on restoration projects. THF also maintains a blog-style website at www.tileheritage.org.

THF is funded by members, sponsors, and advocates, which are essential for its continuance and operation. Right now, there are several year-end opportunities available to help fund the Foundation.

TexTILES now live in Simponsville, S.C.!

Mandy Baker’s “Working Hand,” winner of the “Woodside Mill Award” sponsored by the Simpsonville Arts Foundation.

First, is the incredible TexTILES Exhibition and Sale ongoing through December 31, presented by THF at the No.3 Pottery & Gallery, located within the historic mill community of in Simponsville, S.C. This is a juried exhibition and sale that explores contemporary tile making. A national call for entries was issued in June for artists to submit new works using ceramic tile, ceramic mosaic, or glazed brick to reflect the artists’ interpretation of the complex history of the textile industry in South Carolina, once known as the Textile Capital of the World. Internationally-recognized ceramists and educators of Clemson University, Valerie Zimany and Daniel Bare are jurors for this exhibit which showcases tile artisans from across the country in an exhibition unique to South Carolina.

Can’t make it to Simponsville to view the exhibit live? There is a stunning virtual exhibition and sale that presents the works, artists’ background, and the inspiration for each of the pieces. Visit www.tileheritage.org for more information on this live and virtual exhibit.

Double your dollars fundraising

Tile Heritage is pursuing a $10,000 end-of year match of grant funds. Some of this will come from the TexTILES exhibit virtual sale, but year-end donations are greatly appreciated. And for 2023, THF is gifting any contributor of $100 of more in December with a free Tile Heritage Regular Membership to gift to someone of their choice.

In addition all end-of-year contributors will be entered in a drawing for a new limited edition book on the historic Continental Faience &Tile Co. titled “Carl Bergmans and the Continental Faience & Tile Co.” by authors Ben Tyjeski, Kelly Dudley and Kathy Roberts.

One more opportunity to give is the Tile Heritage Legacy Friends Planned Giving. Find out more at http://endowment.tileheritage.org.
