The Tile Heritage Foundation has announced a call for entries for an upcoming annual virtual exhibition and sale, entitled “Art Tile America 2021 – From Sea to Shining Sea.” The event is designed to honor and enhance the visibility of contemporary tilework while benefiting the Tile Heritage Foundation and participating artists.
This national juried exhibition event takes place December 5-31. Serving as jurors for submitted works are nationally-recognized tile designer, fabricator and contemporary tile influencer Brigid O’Connor, and internationally-recognized ceramic artist and educator Alfredo Ratinoff.
The exhibition explores contemporary tile making and ceramic mosaic. The scope of the exhibition includes works interpreting the natural world, social, cultural, personal and family stories. This exhibition will take place in a virtual reality gallery setting.
Submission deadline: October 20, 2021
Up to three digital submissions per artist are being accepted now through October 20, 2021 ($35 per piece/category), with a late deadline of October 25 (subject to a $50 fee per piece) . Artists will be notified of acceptance into the exhibit by November 5, and the exhibition and sale will take place December 5-31, 2021. Categories include:
- Individual Ceramic Tiles
- Tile Panels
- Ceramic Mosaic Panels
Works completed from August 30th, 2019 to present are eligible, can measure from 6″ x 6″ to 36″ x 36″ in any configuration, and weigh up to 60 lbs. Each artwork must be accompanied by a storyboard: a narrative description of the story being expressed by the tilework. Artists must confirm that works are for sale. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
- Best in Show: $1,000
- Second Prize: $750
- Third Prize: $500
- Tile Heritage Prize: $250
- Spirit of 21st Century Tile Prize: $500
