PROFLEX® Products support exceptional flooring solutions at the Polk County Government Center

In an industry often perceived as male-dominated, the presence of women is increasingly evident. While the majority may still be men, more and more women are stepping into various roles within the field of flooring and remodeling. As they do, they’re not only challenging stereotypes but also bringing a wealth of talent, dedication, and creativity that enriches the industry.

A holistic approach

Connie Shockey, the dedicated owner and founder of TL Ceramic, whose expertise and vision have transformed spaces at the Polk County Government Center.

What sets women apart in this field is their ability to blend technical expertise with a keen eye for aesthetics and functionality. Whether they’re installing tiles, managing projects, or running their own businesses, women bring a holistic approach to their work that often leads to innovative solutions and superior outcomes.

Meet Connie Shockey, a veteran of the flooring and remodeling industry with over three decades of experience. As the founder of TL Ceramic Installation, Connie has earned a reputation for excellence, consistently delivering top-tier solutions tailored to her clients’ needs. Beginning with picking herself up by her bootstraps, she led a team of three women in a predominantly male industry and proved she could not only compete, but also excel in this industry. Her latest project at the Polk County Government Center is a testament to her expertise and dedication to pushing the boundaries of design and functionality.

In the bustling heart of Lakeland, Florida, stands the Polk County Government Center – a beacon of civic engagement and public service spanning an impressive 30,000 sq. ft. Within its walls, countless residents rely on the center’s facilities daily, making it a critical hub for community interaction and governance. PROFLEX®: a trusted provider

Another angle of the waiting room, showcasing the practicality and affordability

To tackle the monumental task of revitalizing the Government Center’s flooring, Shockey turned to PROFLEX®, a trusted provider of innovative flooring products known for their durability and performance. Central to the project’s success were three key PROFLEX® products: SIM®-40, Pro-Stick (PS®) 42 thin-set mortar, and Super Grout.

MAXXIM SIM®– 40, a 40-mil composite underlayment consisting of a rubberized membrane laminated to a high-strength reinforcing fabric on the face and a release sheet on the adhesive side, proved to be a game-changer for the project. Specially designed for use under approved thinsets, mortars, and adhesives, MAXXIM SIM®– 40 provided crack and joint isolation up to 3/8”, ensuring the integrity of the tile installation. Its easy and fast installation with standard tools made the job significantly easier for Shockey’s team, allowing them to proceed with tiling immediately after installation and eliminating delays in the project timeline.

Complementing MAXXIM SIM®– 40 was PS®– 42 thin-set mortar, renowned for its superior performance and workability. With an extended open time and a creamy consistency, Pro-Stick 42 facilitated efficient tile installation, allowing Shockey’s team to work with precision and speed to meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality.

Rounding out the project was Super Grout, a premium performance grout designed to exceed industry standards. Fast-setting, polymer-modified, and efflorescence-free, Super Grout provided a durable and aesthetically-pleasing finish that enhanced the overall look of the space. Its versatility made it the perfect choice for both walls and floors, ensuring a cohesive and seamless aesthetic throughout the Government Center.

The results speak for themselves. Today, the Polk County Government Center stands as a testament to Shockey’s vision and expertise, attracting praise from residents and officials alike. With its durable, aesthetically-pleasing flooring system, the Center is equipped to handle the demands of its bustling environment, welcoming visitors with open arms and providing a comfortable, inviting space for civic engagement.
