Dekton brings modern transitional home to life in Newport Beach

With a holistic approach to design, California-based Dakteris Design – a dynamic husband and wife duo of Alicia and Karl Dakteris – brought a client’s vision to life in the quaint Newport Heights neighborhood – blending form and function to create a warm, modern Santa Barbara Ranch-style home.

“The assignment was to create a warm and modern ranch style ‘Santa Barbara’ home”, explained Alicia. To do it, she looked to surface leader Cosentino for its diverse range of colors, textures and finishes that perfectly aligned with the vision. “Six years ago, I discovered Dekton by Cosentino and was immediately drawn to the company’s philosophy and commitment to sustainability,” she said. “Coupled with exceptional customer services and sales support, choosing Dekton [for this home] was a no-brainer.”

Contextual design

Perched on a rare double parcel with stunning surrounds, the canvas was ideal to craft a custom residence for elevated living. With Karl at the helm for its architecture – and Alicia focused on its design – the pair created a warm, transitional-modern home that integrated indoor and outdoor spaces in perfect harmony.

Upon entry, the open-plan layout sets the stage for both intimate gatherings and lively entertaining, featuring a blend of premium natural materials, expansive glass walls, and a stunning fireplace made of limestone walls and Dekton Sirius on the hearth that immediately captures the eye. For the flooring, the creamy Dekton Danae was used to seamlessly marry the design elements together.

At the heart of the home lies a bespoke kitchen that epitomizes both style and practicality. The centerpiece island is made with Cosentino’s Dekton Sirius, an ultra-compact stone that boasts both beauty and high performance, which Alicia explained, “invites culinary adventures and socializing alike, with easy maintenance.” The island is complemented by perimeter countertops, a backsplash, and a hood range clad in Dekton Rem, which are further supported with high-end appliances.Together, these elements create a beautiful space for memorable moments – and Dekton’s properties added “durability against stains, heat, and easy maintenance,” she said.

Customized texture brings elegance

Moving to the adjacent living spaces, the master suite was created as a peaceful retreat of unparalleled luxury with a spa-like bath, dual walk-in closets, and a spacious deck. For the master bath specifically, Alicia wanted something soft and elegant that contributed to the wellness ambiance. Here, she selected Dekton Arga, reminiscent of the quartzite Taj Majal, which was used for the shower walls and integrated countertop sinks. With her desire to bring unique elements into the space, Alicia made a special request to Cosentino’s factory in Spain to create strips in two different thicknesses to create a textured wall behind the tub.

Dekton Danae unifies indoor and outdoor spaces

Descending a floating hardwood staircase, the lower level reveals a secondary living area with direct access to the rear yard. This space serves as an entertainer’s dream, complete with a covered loggia, a fully equipped bar, and a glistening pool surrounded by lush landscaping. To unify the indoor and outdoor spaces, Dekton Danae was chosen for the flooring, connecting the pool deck, family room, loggia, pool bathroom, flex room, and laundry area. Opting for large tiles created a sleek and clean aesthetic with a seamless flow and effortless care for ultimate peace of mind.

The home also features an attached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) perfect for hosting extended family or guests. Here the natural stone Sensa Gabana was used for an elegant touch on the counters, the same used for the family room counter, pool bathroom vanity top and shower walls.

Alicia Dakteris credits much of the project’s success to her collaboration with Cosentino, whose innovative surfaces played a pivotal role in achieving the home’s design goals. “Dekton’s diverse range of colors, textures, and finishes aligned perfectly with our vision,” she explained. “Its durability, low maintenance, and sustainability made it an ideal choice for every surface, from the kitchen to the pool deck.”

For the fabrication and installation of the surfaces, Alicia chose Colisseum Marble, one of the first companies to work with Dekton, possessing years of experience with the product. President Ernesto Quiroga shared, “Cosentino is always ready to support us,” and Cosentino’s guidebooks help ensure the job flow is easy. “We always like to share our experience with the Dekton team, which is helpful for both them and us.”

This Newport Heights residence is more than a house – it’s a thoughtfully designed haven where timeless elegance and modern convenience coexist. “Our clients had two great qualities: taste and a desire to deliver quality finishes for the future owner,” Alicia added. “With Cosentino surfaces, I assured our client that the products selected had great value, durability, and warranty.”
