Unleash Your Inner Artist – Design to Installation of an Artisan Tile Project

NTCA will host a pair of live broadcasts from the Dragonfly Tile and Stone Works studio in Milwaukee, Wis., on April 2 and April 6. These twin 60-90 minute broadcasts feature the Artisans in Tile Team of NTCA members Joshua Nordstrom from Tierra Tile of Homer, Alaska, and Lee Callewaert, Dragonfly Tile & Stone Works of Grafton, Wis., with live support from Dragonfly staff and Mark Heinlein, NTCA Training Director. The presentations will be streamed live on Zoom and Facebook.

Session 1: Friday, April 2, 10 a.m. CDT — The Artisans in Tile Team will demonstrate the  process and methods for designing, building and installing the 2020 Coverings original artwork based on the New Orleans, La., cityscape, which was to have been built live on site during 2020 Coverings before the show was cancelled due to COVID.

Attendees will hear the artisans speak to the nearly two-year history and precision development of the artwork, the process of shipping 50% of it from Alaska to Wisconsin, then coming together to assemble it.

At this stage, the artwork will be an installation work in-progress.  Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with the artisans and ask questions about their work and this one-of-a-kind artwork in particular during the livestream.

The ultimate disposition of the New Orleans themed artwork will be an auction to support the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation (CTEF) and the tile industry’s recognized certification and education programs.

Before the end of the broadcast, the artisans will reveal progress on the exciting new, original artwork they have been planning for months for Coverings 2021. This is THE prelude to the Coverings Live Trade Show July 7 – 8 – 9, 2021 and is not to be missed!
